Ed Sundberg was born the son of Swedish immigrants and lived the American dream. His father came to Boston in 1912 found work and immediately sent for his sweetheart in Geta, Aland. It was her and his unfortunate fate that she boarded the Titanic and never made it to America. He eventually fell in love with another, married and had three sons and a daughter. He started at the bottom helping to build many of Boston's largest buildings and eventually began building homes in and around the Boston area. After high school graduation Ed found work and attended Boston's School of Art. One evening in 1938 he went to a dance and met the love of his life. He was 18 she was 14. Three years later, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Ed joined the Marines and was in the first wave at Guadalcanal, the first Pacific offensive of WW2. Following the war he returned to Boston and married his sweetheart Ruth. Their first son was born in 1945, shortly after they picked up and moved to California. After working a few years he came up with the idea of pressure sensitive felt dots, started his own company and named it Deccofelt. Shortly after their daughter was born Deccofelt began to prosper and in 1953 Ed and his partner bought land in Glendora and built the first of five buildings as the company grew. In 1960 Ed decided to take up the sport of sailing and like everything he did, he did it well. He always loved being on the water, so racing sail boats came naturally. He won many races and eventually became one of California Yacht Clubs commodores in 1973. After a full life of prosperous work and raising a family, Ruth and Ed retired in Hawaii, he lived to see their 64th wedding anniversary.
